Three Dollars per Issue

We’ll invite you to our emailing list to receive a quarterly newsletter with our latest travel tales, filmmaking news and stories, and general household, camper lifestyle and creative project happenings.
Nine Dollars per Issue

We’ll invite you to a more exclusive emailing list where we’ll share a family album reserved for our closer friends, with candid pictures we won’t see on Facebook, and goofy videos having to do with our travel adventures, pets and playful downtime.
Thirty Dollars per Issue

We’ll invite you to choose a destination for us to visit near where we are staying. We’ll either write about it or create a short video featuring the location, which can be a restaurant, a local attraction or an oddity off the beaten path. We’ll remain open to explore any affordable place, and we’ll help you research if you’d like.
Fifty Dollars per Issue

We shall invite you to suggest a topic, idea, genre or character for a short story. You can even place yourself in a story. If you prefer, you can request a short screenplay instead of a short story. I may have to limit this gift if the option becomes popular.

Any More

Wow. We'll have to talk.

Goals and Expectations are important to have. For this first issue I hope to attract enough patrons to bring in $150.

By the third issue, I'd love to bring in up to $300.

I expect to put out an issue every 3 months, unless this yields a significant income, in which frequency may bump up to every other month.

Regardless of patrons and contributions, I expect to continue releasing Scriptorium until I've at least completed my serialized novella, Veronica, which is outlined to be 14 chapters.

All stories and content will be original. Copying and sharing is okay so long as I remain credited.

I will not be aggressively soliciting friends and family for patronage, nor will I expect most people I know to have an interest in contributing or in reading my work. If you happen to come with interest in either, feel free to share with others that may be like-minded.

Please do not feel obligated to contribute in order to read any of my content. It is FREE!

Let me know how I could improve this page or this publication. Write me with any questions, concerns or suggestions at any time.
Welcome to my SCRIPTORIUM, the place where I weave many of my fun and philosophical wanderings into narrative prose and non-fictional offerings.
What's In A Name?

I’ve taken liberty with naming my writing room after that which has been associated with medieval monasteries where scribes would write, copy and illuminate manuscripts; as I feel language is a living, breathing entity, I’ll continue to take such liberties that may challenge the norm of our written expression, as contributor to its evolution.

What's In This Room?
In these walls you’ll find a collection of writings, perhaps equal parts fiction as non-fiction. I enjoy writing an assortment of things: different styles, different subjects, different forms. The centerpiece of my scriptorium will most often be a chapter from my in-progress sci-fi novella, Veronica, my first attempt at such a massive article of writing.
Since college I’ve grown fond of writing humor pieces in the vain of early short works by Steve Martin, Woody Allen, and other contributors to The New Yorker’s Shouts & Murmurs section. These are as wild and random as any fanciful idea that’s ever danced in the open space of a playful mind. They free-range from the political to the literary to the satirical to the absurd to whatever pops in my head. Some miff, some mock, some tickle, some bite.
Other pieces I’ll include will be short stories, personal essays, travel snippets, and reviews of movies, shows, books, whatever. The beauty of this magazine is that I’ll be able to put in whatever creative part of me I want. I’ll do my best to use pictures that Karen and I take ourselves, as appose to stock images, and any ads you may find will either be for personal exploit or for people close to us.

What's With Asking For Money?

There was a time when I happily held down 2 part-time jobs, each satisfying in their own way. They barely lifted me above the official poverty line, but that hardly mattered because they were great jobs, where I got to work with great people AND be creative and inspired. I felt like I was making a difference working at both The Book House and Adventure Club of Webster Groves.

Then we decided to do something radical. Karen and I decided to trade our sedentary, rent-controlled lifestyle for a mobile, gypsy experience that would have us roaming about the country, in search of peace, kindness, uniqueness, surprise and spiritual growth. We understood the challenges of the trade-off: we would forfeit stability for freedom. Namely financial stability.

Inspired by the spirit of gypsy living, I got the idea to offer my passion for profit. Some people make crafts, others make jewelry, others tell fortunes, or stories with music, etc. I'm passionate about writing and making movies. If I can make any money at all from these gifted pleasures, I may as well take that money to live, so that I can create more. Creative accomplishment is what connects me to the universe, and is therefore what gives me the most reward.
Entry into the Scriptorium is free at all times. Donations are welcome through a system inspired by the crowd-funding platform, Patreon. But rather than send folks to yet another site, I’ve decided to forgo the middleman and handle the presentation myself. I’m expecting only friends and family to visit anyway, so I may as well make it as simple as possible.
Contributions are rewarded with great thanks, and gifts to express my appreciation. These gifts are also a fun way to build a community with ideas and creative challenges that help us stay connected.
The best way to contribute at this time is through Paypal. My email is brianackley1978@gmail.com.
